June 21, 2010 -- The Research and Conservation of Cultural Heritage announced that it has discovered a 3.6 million-year-old partial skeleton of "Lucy"s species (Australopithecus afarensis) in Afar State, in north eastern Ethiopia, reports ENA. Lucy was 3.2 million years old.
Public Relation and International Relation Director with the Authority, Wolde Darsema told ENA that the newly discovered human Skelton is older than that of Lucy by 400,000 years. Lucy was 3.2 Million years old.
The bones indicate this ancestor also walked upright, but was considerably larger than Lucy, who stood about 3.5 feet tall. Because of his size — more than 5 feet tall — the new specimen has been named "Kadanuumuu," which means "big man" in the Afar language.
