Ethnic Attacks Continue to Erupt in Ethiopia, Latest in Mizan Tepi Town

Ethnic-clashes-continue-EthiopiaAugust 14, 2018 - Ethnic based attack and conflict continues to erupt in many parts of Ethiopia, the latest occurred in Mizan Tepi in South Nations Nationalities and Peoples State where unconfirmed deaths were reported on Tuesday.

Roads linking Metu, Masha and Tepi towns were blocked by Shaka ethnic groups, affecting movement of people and vehicles.

Ezega.com has learnt that at least five people are wounded and are being treated in Tepi hospital in after the attack.

About 80 people on Tuesday voiced their concern over the violence and the death of people in Tepi and neighboring towns to Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation and Fana Broadcast Corporate.

They called on the federal government to interfere and stop the violence and deaths.

In a similar attack, at least 40 people were killed by militia forces in eastern Ethiopia over the weekend.

On Monday, Spokesperson for Oromia regional State Negere Lencho said the attack was carried out by armed Ethiopian Somali militia against members of Oromo ethnic groups.

Meanwhile, a temporary shelter built for displaced people from Ethiopian Somali state in Adama city of Oromia state was set on fire on Monday after they entered into conflict with the residents of the city.

Late on Saturday, two individuals were stoned to death in eastern Welega. On Sunday a man who was suspected of carrying a hand grenade was found dead and hanged up side down in the city of Shashemene in Oromia state.

About three people were reportedly killed in a stampede in city of Shashemene Stadium where thousands of people were crammed to welcome political activist Jawar Mohammed. Dozens of people were reportedly wounded in the stampede.
