NAMA Condemns What it Called 'Apartheid Way' in Addis Ababa

NAMA-protests-discriminationFebruary 25, 2019 ( - The National Movement of Amhara National (NAMA) has released a statement today condemning what it called 'apartheid' way of doing business in Addis Ababa.

The strongly worded statement was released after dispute involving the use of Millenium conference hall in Bole, Addis Ababa.

NAMA said it requested to use the Millenium Hall some six month ago. After a long wait, it was allowed to use it and was invited to Addis Ababa city hall to pay fees and do the paperwork, which it said took more than a week to complete.

NAMA further said that, when the time finally came to sign, it was told by city authorities that the Millenium Hall was given to OMN (Oromia Media Network) for fundraising activities.

It called the process an 'aparteid' way of doing things and strongly condemned it.

NAMA also said it spent millions of Birr preparing for such an event and it said it will hold the concerned authorities responsble.

The NAMA press release also said, this is an affront not only against NAMA, but against the Amhara people as a whole and called on all Amharas to join it in condemning the discrimination.

The statement further said NAMA plans to release call for action to protest this in the near feature.
